THANKSGIVING MASS FOR THE LATE PRESIDENT OF SECAM, RICHARD CARDINAL BAAWOBR AT THE SECRETARIAT IN ACCRA, GHANA

Three cardinals including His Eminence Antoine Cardinal KAMBANGA, Archbishop of Kigali (Rwanda) joined staff of SECAM and sympathizers to give thanks to God Almighty for the gift of Richard Cardinal BAAWOBR to SECAM as an Exemplary and Exceptional President and also for the successful funeral rites of the late Cardinal BAAWOBR in Wa, Ghana.

A Two-Day Funeral Rites was held at the Wa Sports Stadium from 11-12 January 2023 and the mortal remains of Cardinal BAAWOBR were buried in the St. Andrew Cathedral, Wa, Ghana. SECAM delegation led by the 1st Vice-President, His Eminence Fridolin Cardinal Ambongo returned from Wa to Accra in the afternoon of Friday 13th January 2023 and held a Mass of Thanksgiving at the Secretariat of Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM)

His Eminence the late Richard kuuia Cardinal BAAWOBR served as President of SECAM for just a few months. He was elected President of SECAM during the 19th Plenary Assembly of thus continental body held in Accra-Ghana from 25-31 July 2022. He was the Bishop of Wa Diocese since 2001.  Pope Francis named Richard BAAWOBR a cardinal on 29 May 2022 and elevated him to that rank on 27 August of the same year. He died on 27 November 2022 in Rome.

His role and journey as Cardinal and President of SECAM, was from start to finish a journey of faith though very short. He exited this life on earth to join his Maker. He was a man of great humility, love, and unity. He lived a self-less and sacrificial lifestyle.  He worked for the common good. Former President and Vatican diplomat Richard Kuuia Cardinal BAAWOBR was a man of peace, modest, soft-spoken, intelligent, and polyglots.

Let us pray earnestly for our late Cardinal. Your Eminence, we salute you and we assure you of our prayers, today and always.
