The Episcopal Conference of Malawi is holding its first annual Plenary Meeting from 27th to 31st January 2025, in Lilongwe (Malawi). “The Church in Malawi is alive and thriving”, said SECAM President, Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo, during his visit to Malawian Bishops.
During this plenary, the members of this Episcopal conference have the opportunity to interact with His Eminence Fridolin Cardinal Ambongo, Archbishop of Kinshasa and president of the Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM).
“The Church in Malawi is alive and thriving”, said the president of SECAM in his message on January 29, 2025, congratulating His Excellency George Desmond Tambala, Metropolitan Archbishop of Lilongwe and President of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi, all the Bishops of Malawi and their direct collaborators: priests, religious men and women, catechists, and all the faithful.
Recalling that “SECAM belongs to the bishops of Africa and its Islands”, Card. Ambongo, explained that SECAM “serves as a platform for collaboration, fostering unity among the many Episcopal Conferences across our continent. The diversity of cultures, languages, and experiences within Africa enriches our Church, and SECAM provides the space for us to share and learn from one another”. “It is up to us bishops to say what kind of reform should be made to SECAM so that it is able to fulfil the mission for which it was created”, he concluded.
According to the Very Rev. Fr. Valariano Mtseka, Secretary General of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi, the Bishops of Malawi will reflect on topic such as Small Christian Communities, present social and political situation, the upcoming Eucharistic Congress scheduled from 5th to 9th August 2025, home visiting as a model of missionary evangelization, marriage breakdowns and challenges.
