The Synodal Church in Africa: Journeying towards the 2028 Ecclesial Assembly” is the theme of the First Preparatory Seminar in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (3-5 August 2026). This gathering will review Africa’s synodal journey, discerns missionary pathways, shares regional experiences and contributes to a continental working document guiding preparations for the 2028 Ecclesial Assembly.

Organized by the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM), the First Continental Conference on Catholic Education in Africa, brings together bishops, educators, researchers, and Catholic institutions to strengthen Catholic education across the continent. Inspired by the vision of Pope Francis through the Global Compact on Education, this conference will address key challenges, including access, quality, teacher formation, sustainability, technology and Catholic identity. It also highlights Africa's opportunities through its youthful population and vibrant faith communities. By promoting collaboration, innovation and strategic coordination, the conference seeks to reinforce Catholic education's mission of evangelization, integral human development and lasting social transformation throughout Africa.
