Stakeholders To Help Reduce Irregular Migration

The SECAM Justice, Peace and Development Commission held a Migration Working Group Meeting in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire from December 5-9, 2018.

The meeting is part of preparations towards the celebration of the SECAM Golden Jubilee on Refugees, Migrants and Displaced Persons in March 2019.

The meeting brought together representatives from six Regional Conferences of SECAM including Regional Episcopal Conferences of North Africa (CERNA) which represents the Northern African Region which is a popular route for many Africans who migrate to Europe. The experiences shared by the representatives of CERNA was very important to the meeting.

Migration and Human trafficking issues have been paramount in the 4th phase of the SECAM Good Governance Project, hence, the meeting sought to sensitize actors on the need to enhance the Church’s contribution towards reducing incidents of irregular migration and human trafficking in Africa through the efforts of Church structures.
