His Eminence Philippe Cardinal OUEDRAOGO, Metropolitan Archbishop of Ouagadougou and President of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) has once again called for immense support from all angles of the world for patients of COVID-19.
He made this call on his sick bed as a COVID-19 patient on Palm Sunday, 5th April 2020, in a message to the members of his diocese as well as all Christians and non-Christians.
The Cardinal further stated that “there is an urgent need for adequate means to save the many human lives affected by the virus”. It is also necessary that the world unites to bring the menace to an end as it has multifaceted consequences on sanitary, socio-economic, cultural and even spiritual life for everyone, he added.
The Cardinal further stressed that this period of Lent, marked by the pandemic situation of COVID -19, should become for everyone, a time of humility, total confidence and surrender to our Master and Lord Jesus Christ who never abandons man. He stressed that with Christ, “we will be victorious! Though he died, he arose and he is always alive”.
Cardinal Philippe who has since been responding to treatment, has expressed gratitude for the tremendous support he has received from various quarters since he tested positive for the virus.
