The African Council of Religious Leaders (ACRL) also known as Religions for Peace (RfP) held its Regional Consultation and Validation Meeting in Kampala-Uganda from 6-8 May 2019.
Participants from SECAM were the 1st Vice President of SECAM, Most Rev. Mathieu Madega Lebouankehan, Bishop of Mouila, Gabon and the Secretary General of SECAM, Rev. Fr. Joseph Komakoma. The main aim of the meeting was to come out with a common position for Africa to present to the 10th World Assembly of Religions for Peace (RfP) to be held in Lindau (Germany), in August 2019.
The ACRL is a pan-African faith-based organization which brings together 26 National Inter-faith organizations. It has a mission of “Mobilizing religious leaders and their communities to build peaceful, just, hopeful and harmonious societies in Africa”.
In another development, the visit to Uganda was an opportunity for Bishop Madega and Fr. Komakoma to meet with the President and Secretary General of the Ugandan Episcopal Conference, namely, Bishop Zziwa and Msgr. John Baptist Kauta, respectively, to ascertain the status of plans at the local level for the SECAM Golden Jubilee in July 2019.
The two also paid a Courtesy Call on the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda, His Excellency, Archbishop Luigi Bianco, who expressed his interest and readiness to participate and support in making the SECAM Golden Jubilee successful.
The delegation was also honoured to attend one of the fundraising sessions being organized by the Uganda Episcopal Conference in support of the SECAM Jubilee.
