The President of SECAM and Archbishop of Lubango, Angola, Most Rev. Gabriel Mbilingi has invited Bishops of the Regional Episcopal Conferences of West Africa (RECOWA-CERAO) to get involved in the final Programmes of the SECAM Golden Jubilee Year and fully participate in them.
He said this in a speech during the 3rd Plenary Assembly of RECOWA-CERAO in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso from 13th to 20th May 2019 attended by over 200 prelates from the West African sub-region.
The triennial event was on the theme: The New Evangelisation and Integral Human Development in the Church Family of God in West Africa”.
Most Rev. Mbilingi said the theme of the plenary complements that of SECAM’s up-coming Plenary and Golden Jubilee in July 2019, “Church-Family-of-God in Africa, celebrate your Jubilee, proclaim Jesus Christ your Saviour” adding that the themes emphasize the common concern for growth and rooting of the faith in Africa and Madagascar.
He further mentioned that SECAM, as a fruit of the Jubilee, has decided to offer the continent a reference pastoral document which will guide the African Church for years to come.
Most Rev. Ignatius Ayau Kaigama, Coadjutor Archbishop of Abuja, Nigeria and President of RECOWA-CERAO, who presided over the opening Mass thanked all who have worked for the growth and sustenance of the Conference, noting that they were one people and needed to remain one.
The Plenary Fathers as part of proceedings discussed immigration and resolved to act positively with other stakeholders to quell the issues of migration of West African youth to other parts of the world.
The President of Burkina Faso, Richard Marc Christian KABORE, and other Burkinabe government officials graced the opening ceremony of the Assembly together with other dignitaries and well-wishers.
