Partners happy with SECAM and pledge continued support

Representatives from partner organizations at the 18th SECAM Plenary Assembly and Golden Jubilee have lauded African Bishops for the tremendous work both in evangelization and human integral development.

Speaking on Sunday July 21, 2019 at the opening ceremony of the Plenary Assembly, the partners said they were happy to be part of SECAM’s success story over the past years and are happy to continue the journey with the Church in Africa to make it fully evangelized and in the areas of integral human development, justice and peace.

According to H.E. Daniel Cardinal Nicholas DiNardo, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston from USCCB, “The Church in the United States joyfully continues to walk shoulder to shoulder with you. Catholic Relief Services opened offices in many countries shortly after they gained independence. We initiated the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa and look forward to seeing that the fund grows to assist in ever better ways with the future needs of a growing and vibrant Church. We are grateful for our partnership with SECAM,” he indicated.

Sean Callahan, the President and Chief Executive Officer for CRS echoed similar sentiments saying, the leadership of the Catholic Church in Africa has made a difference in these critical global challenges and in our time and that even when success alludes government efforts, the Church continues to be on the frontline across the continent, reaching the neediest and the most remote people by delivering effective development and lifesaving services while also assuring pastoral care; “in solidarity with you we support and honor your efforts to enable the dreams of youth and migrants on this continent to be realized.”

Rt. Rev. Declan Lang, Bishop of Clifton and Chairman of the International Affairs Department of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England in his message which was delivered by Ms Christine Allen who is the new Director of CAFOD said “I, and my fellow bishops, thank you too for the gift of your priests and men and women Religious who minister faithfully and creatively within so many of our parishes and communities,”.

The Archbishop of Yangon & President of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC), H.E. Charles Maung Cardinal Bo, SDB, also stated, “we praise you for your collegiality, communion, collaboration and solidarity over the past 50 years. Through your efforts the Church in Africa has strived to become more and more the Family of God in Africa. Through your efforts the Church in Africa speaks to the universal Church.”

The Secretary General of CIDSE, Josianne Gauthier on behalf of the Secretariat in Brussels and on behalf of the Board of Directors of CIDSE indicated that, “we at CIDSE are very proud to be your partners in creating a world of change, a world of justice, and a world of peace.”

The President of MISSIO Aachen, Msgr Dr. Klaus Krämer, said, “We are pleased to have supported you in these areas for many years and we would like to thank you for your good cooperation. Your commitment in words and actions in the light of the Gospel brings life to the people and we are happy to accompany and to support your work also in future”.

H.Em. Angelo Card. Bagnasco President of the Council of Episcopal Conferences in Europe (CCEE) also indicated that “the collaboration between our two Continental bodies, CCEE and SECAM, has always been fruitful and it has been enriched in a particular way since 2007 with a periodic and stable appointment… to discuss the areas of pastoral care as well as current cultural and social challenges are always an occasion of enrichment for the dynamism and joy with which the Gospel of Jesus Christ is lived and proclaimed on this Continent. Often, we can also admire the very clear and healthy anthropological vision in your announcements.”
