The Catholic bishops of The Inter-Regional Meeting Of The Bishops Of Southern Africa (IMBISA) on 11th June 2020 unveiled a new website, https://imbisa.africa/en, to connect the Southern African Church across vast distances.
IMBISA is a communion of Catholic Bishops from Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, São Tomé and Príncipe, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The website according to the Director of the Secretariat of IMBISA, Rev. Fr. Dumisani Vilakati, has a clean uncluttered design, improved functionality, and enhanced rich content focused on connecting Bishops with the laity through sharing of Catholic stories. It is a platform for Bishops to communicate with the laity, and for the laity to communicate with Bishops. It is a shared space where important conversations can be heard, involving a diverse cross-section of voices. Furthermore, the website will offer information on safeguarding children, protection of vulnerable persons, elections, family life, good governance, the environment (Laudato Sì), education, health, COVID-19, justice and peace among other key thematic areas that affect people’s lives.
Fr. Vilakati added that the website will be updated on a regular basis with stories from parishes or dioceses, offering insights to many pressing issues the Church in Africa is dealing with and also opinions on specific topics.
The website he added is part of efforts to strengthen the representation of the Catholic Bishops in Southern Africa.
