Caritas Africa has ended its 9th Regional Conference aimed at strengthening its commitment to the fight against poverty and the promotion of good governance.
The Conference took place from 20th to 22nd May 2019 in Rome, Italy on the theme: “Africa, land of hope”; acknowledging that despite the challenges the people of Africa face on the socio-political and economic fronts, there are many opportunities in Africa which must be a guide into the brighter future.
The meeting also discussed ways to reduce the impact of humanitarian crises by strengthening disaster preparedness and responses.
Further, the representatives at the five-day Conference discussed ways of facilitating the implementation of the 2019-2023 Caritas Africa Strategic Framework, Regional Strategies and Operation Plan.
Consequently, they deliberated on how to consolidate the commitment and effectiveness of Caritas network in the service of the poor in most deprived areas in Africa and looked at approaches of improving coordination at the national and zonal levels in order to facilitate the attainment of the Action Plan.
Caritas Africa is a network of some 46-member organisations including the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascaar (SECAM).
Representing SECAM at the Regional Conference were the 1st Vice President of SECAM, Most Rev. Mathieu Madega Lebouankehan, Bishop of Mouila, Gabon and the Secretary General of SECAM, Rev. Fr. Joseph Komakoma.
